Gluco-LogP v.1.1

©2005 Edward Hoad

Overview

Gluco-LogP is a digital logbook for insulin pumpers.  It is an easy to use, straight forward program that allows you to record and keep track of data crucial to good diabetes management.  This data can be viewed/printed from your desktop computer (not Mac compatible) or may be exported in .csv format

Gluco-LogP utilizes table headers and left/right scrolling.  This allows the user to view 10 columns of data, and is ideal for devices that feature landscape viewing (PalmOneTungsten T3, Sony UX series).

Installation

Please…read the License Agreement prior to installation.

Select the appropriate file for your device and install as you would any PalmOS® software. The hi-res version should work on hi and low resolution devices.  However, a lo-res version is also included if required.  Tungsten T3 users may also need to install the included compatiblity .prc’s (These are supplied with most 3rd party software, so you may already have them installed).

Gluco-LogP can be installed along side Gluco-Log (the non-pumpers version) with no conflicts or overwriting of data

Gluco-LogP requires devices with Palm® OS 3.5 or higher.  This version runs optimally on the faster processors of Palm® OS 5.0+

Using the Program

Demo Version

This is a fully functional program.  After 30 days the program will lock up and remain unusable until registered.  Please register (purchase) this software at www.palmgear.com .

First Time Out

The first time you run Gluco-LogP you will be prompted to choose the unit of measurement used when recording BG, and to enter basal rates, and personall settings (carb to insulin ration, insulin sensitivity and target BG). Gluco-LogP uses your personal settings data when calculating suggested bolus amounts.

You should also take a moment to add data as follows:

From the menu bar on the main form (table) select Options, and:

·         Food to add foods you often eat.  This can be a real time saver when entering data later

·         Meds to add prescription or other medications you feel should be recorded.

Icons

Tap and hold any icon to have its function displayed on the screen.  Lightly slide the stylus away from the icon and lift from the screen to close the description window without having the icon actually perform any action.

Entering Data

Tap the ‘new record’ icon to begin.

1.       The event list drops down automatically.  Choose the appropriate event from the list. (you can change the event later if necessary).

2.       You may notice a slight pause as the basal amount for the record time is selected and recorded by the program.

3.       The “Blood Glucose” keypad pops up.  Enter your BG or tap “cancel” to bypass this step.

The words: BG, Carbs, Bolus, Ketones, Foods, B.P., Pulse, Weight, Meds, and Note are all buttons that activate keypads or dropdown menus, making data entry quick and simple!  You can also enter data manually with the stylus if you prefer.  When listing meds, simply check the box beside each med you have taken.  When you tap the “Home” icon, the list is pasted in the current record.

After entering the number of carbohydrates, you can choose to tap the “calc” button to see a “suggested” bolus.  This amount is calculated based on the information entered in your personal settings.  Please proceed cautiously when using the suggested bolus!  Be sure to make comparisons between it and your current method of calculating insulin requirements!

Exercise time is not included in the bolus calculation.  It is for your reference only.

Boluses may be recorded as square or dual wave, or as an injection, by selecting the appropriate checkbox.  When selecting square or dual wave boluses, you will be prompted to enter the amount(s) and duration.  This information is displayed on the screen, to the right of the bolus amount.

If the “set change” checkbox is selected, the time and date of the set change will be displayed on the table form, and also displayed by tapping the information “i” button beside the set change.

The ”battery” checkbox does not show on the table form.  When a report is printed, however, both battery and set changes are listed in the “notes” section.

NOTE: When you first use the program an erroneous number may appear at the bottom of the table form.  This is corrected itself after the first set change.

To set an alarm for a reminder to re-testing, tap the alarm clock button beside the time field. The alarm can be set from 45 minutes to 4 hours and 45 minutes. (This alarm also creates a datebook entry.  If the datebok in your device has never been used, it may cause an error the first time).

If a BG reading of 250 mg/dl (14.5 mmol/L) or greater is entered, the alarm is automatically set to reming you to retest in 30 minutes.

A quick way to add data to the Foods or Meds database: Highlight the text you wish to add as a med or food.  Tap the clipboard icon at the top of the form.  Select the appropriate checkbox and tap “OK”.

Table Form (main form)

The table displays 10 columns of data.  Tap the “?” icon at the top of the screen to see the definition of table symbols

Exporting Data

Blood sugar records can be exported to the memo pad as a .csv (comma separated value) file.  This is transferred to the desktop during the hot-sync process, can be copied to Notepad and saved as a .txt file.  It can be imported into most spreadsheet programs (Excel, Quattro Pro, etc.).  The fields are exported in the following order:  date, time, event, set change, BG, carbs, food, exercise, meal bolus, correction bolus, basal, meds, ketones, blood pressure, pulse, weight, notes. (The date and time columns do not have to be formatted as such in your spreadsheet program, as they are exported as text strings)

If you are using a date range to filter records, only those records within the filter parameters will be exported.

For pc users, the most efficient means of viewing data is by using TBViewer® to read pre-compiled reports, which are included with each version of this program.

TBViewer®

Included with this program are a number of precompiled reports.  In order to view or print these reports, you must first have TBViewer installed (TBViewer is not Mac compatible) on your pc.  You can download TBViewer here, at no charge.  A link is also provided in the Gluco-Log download file.

Installation:

·         Click open (or save, if you wish) the tbviewer.zip file, and follow the prompts as it self installs

·         Start the TBViewer program, and click File/Open, or the ‘Open’ icon

·         Drag the file “Gluco-LogP Logbook” file into the TBViewer window (this file is included in your Gluco-LogP download.  Click on the file you have dragged in the window.  After a very short pause, the report will be displayed for you to choose.  Please note:  This report requires 8.5”X14” paper

If you require a custom report, please contact me at hoads@cogeco.ca.  I will try to accommodate reasonable requests and periodically make them available to all users.
